As Berlin saw the Wall


It was not until the lights went out, then broke off the S-Bahn - a little later was the border to West Berlin tight. The construction of the Berlin Wall was a blitz, the residents were surprised in their sleep. What happened on 13 August 1961?A historic log hours.
The 13th August 1961 is a warm summer day. Most Berliners do not work. 16 years ago, the war that devastated the city and divided into four sectors. Now you go to church on Sunday, sitting in cafes and enjoying the summer.
But this day is different. Overnight riot police of East Germany have designed all roads between East and West Berlin rolls of barbed wire. At Bernauer Strasse, Potsdamer Plats, the Brandenburg Gate.

Items with machine guns stand at a distance of several meters behind the barriers. The train no longer travels to West Berlin. The city is divided. Final.
Yet no one suspects the extent of the disaster. Quietly standing in the East and West Berlin before the barbed wire. You can almost shake hands. You could simply move the wire away or jump over it to him. But nothing happens. It is hardly cried.There are no major riots.
