Syrian forces on Sunday intensified its siege against the eastern town of Deir el-Zour as part of a crackdown to stop the growing popular uprising during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. A new attack against the city and other similar actions in two locations killed at least 52 dead, said different groups of human rights defenders, who considered it possible an increase in the number of victims.
The most serious incidents occurred in Deir el-Zour, where troop’s siege rose and took days. At least 42 people died in the attack launched before dawn on the city, said Abdul-Karim Rihawi, head of the Syrian Association for Human Rights, in Damascus, Ammar Qurabi, and head of the National Organization for Human Rights in Syria.
